A message for Martin Luther King Day

As we celebrate the influential life and impact of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I'd like to take a moment to remember some of the great things Dr. King said. We all know he had a dream of little black children and little white children holding hands together.

Not only was Dr. King a dreamer, he was a visionary. He once said a dreamer has his eyes closed, a visionary has his eyes opened. Dr. King knew how to dream and have a vision.

As your state representative, I want to work to put aside the great societal divisiveness we experience today. Dr. King noted, "hate destroys the hater." I remember the days when Ronald Reagan and Tip O'Neill would dine together at the White House regularly to work things out.

As a state and country, we must get back to knowing each other. As your state rep, I have a vision to keep Columbia County and Georgia a safe place to raise a family, to have a great quality of life, and continue to fight to keep keep taxes low.

I want to challenge Republicans in District 131, and all of Georgia, to get involved at any level. Dr. King said the ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people, but the silence over that by the good people. We are in difficult times and we need good people to not be silent in their voice or vote.

I'm Paul Abbott and I need your vote on May 21st.

Long Time Educator Announces Candidacy

MARTINEZ - Paul Abbott of Martinez, GA, a long time educator, has announced his candidacy for House District 131 of the Georgia General Assembly.  The seat will be open for the upcoming election cycle due to Rep. Jodi Lott not seeking re-election. Mr. Abbott will run as a Republican.

Mr. Abbott is a life-long educator and administrator with more than 32 years of experience and a background in teaching students with disabilities. He is a 22 year veteran of the U.S. Army and Georgia Army National Guard having retired in 2009.  He holds conservative values and understands many of the current challenges in education.  Parents need choices and their voices  to be heard; biological males must kept out of girls’ sports. Mr. Abbott is extremely concerned about the growing teacher shortage in Georgia. “Teachers need the support of the Georgia legislature to protect them from the ever-increasing regulations that make their jobs even more difficult.” Mr. Abbott has seen first-hand how common core and other overreaching policies have impacted education. As a state representative, Mr. Abbott will look for ways to empower Georgia’s teachers and attract more young people to join the profession.

Mr. Abbott received his Bachelors and Masters in Education from Georgia Southern University and his Education Specialist degree in School Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi. He enlisted in the Georgia Army National Guard in 1987 and received his commission while attending Georgia Southern University in 1989. In 2009, Mr. Abbott was selected as Teacher of the Year for Lowndes County Schools.  He is married to Megan Abbott and they have 5 children and two grandchildren. He looks forward to meeting and speaking with District 131 constituents to discuss issues important to them as well. He states he’s ready to listen to you and WORK for you.
